Fireworks: UP and OUT

LIGHT, LIGHT, LIGHT UP THE SKY…

Inspired by a friend’s blog and the short video her son created, I was awestruck by the Godly wisdom tucked into the framework of fireworks.

Fireworks shoot up and then out. This reminds me to connect UP to God FIRST and then out to others SECOND. Sounds like a cross shape to me. How about you?

Jesus said, “‘Love the Lord your God with all your passion and prayer and intelligence.’ This is the most important, the first on any list. But there is a second to set alongside it: ‘Love others as well as you love yourself.’ These two commands are pegs; everything in God’s Law and the Prophets hangs from them.” Matthew 22:37-40 MSG

Fireworks are definitely NOT secretive. You can see and hear them from miles away.

Fireworks light up a dark sky and make the surrounding colors, otherwise nearly invisible, visible.

Fireworks are not to be set off in confined spaces.

Typically, fireworks are deployed from hilltops, in order to generously give the light-show further reach up and out.

“Here’s another way to put it: You’re here to be light, bringing out the God-colors in the world. God is not a secret to be kept. We’re going public with this, as public as a city on a hill. If I make you light-bearers, you don’t think I’m going to hide you under a bucket, do you? I’m putting you on a light stand. Now that I’ve put you there on a hilltop, on a light stand—shine! Keep open house; be generous with your lives. By opening up to others, you’ll prompt people to open up with God, this generous Father in heaven.” Matthew 5:14-16 MSG

Last but not least, firework shows have a grand finale, leaving the watching world with their heads tilted upward, amazed and awestruck.

“This wine is delectable. Why would you save the most exquisite fruit of the vine? A host would generally serve the good wine first and, when his inebriated guests don’t notice or care, he would serve the inferior wine.

You have held back the best for last.

John 2:10 VOICE

Look up,

and be alert to what is going on around Christ—that’s where the action is. See things from his perspective.”

Col. 3:2 MSG

MAY WE BE AMAZED AND AWESTRUCK BY THE WONDER OF GOD’S GRACE AND MERCY IN A FRESH NEW WAY TODAY!

This 4th of July I pray we take the time to look for God in every nook and cranny,

Looking for HIM:

in the faces of your family and friends,

in the words we read, hear and speak,

in the on-line and real world,

in nature,

in news,

in the RED, WHITE AND BLUE,

in every other color too,

in silence,

in sirens,

in feast,

in famine,

when you are alone and when we are together.

He tells us if we seek HIM, we will find HIM and I am finding that to be true.

Happy INDEPENDENCE DAY. May it find us more DEPENDENT ON GOD THAN EVER!

***I hope you will take a moment to check out this post and video. It is a beautiful memorial stone to add to our 4th of July celebration http://maypatterson.com/2017/07/independence-day-celebration-deliverance/

And here is a musical snack to add to your 4th of July mixed tape:)
