Selma: Learning from the Past
Defining moments do just that. You start out one person and from that moment forward you are forever redefined!
About a month ago, I had the beautiful blessing of sitting down with Dr. Sonnie Hereford III and 3 friends. Dr. Hereford marched in Selma 50 years ago. His medical expertise, coupled with his compassionate, Christ-centered heart positioned him to be the hands and feet of Jesus through caring for the wounded on that tragic day. As he took us back in time, we could feel the electricity in the air but mostly we could feel the love, courage and peace that overflows from a heart completely dependent on a God who is faithful and trustworthy!
The photos above document this defining day. I almost have to pinch myself every time I look at them to remind myself that I am not dreaming!
The picture of Dr. Hereford looking out the window shows this precious man on his cell phone! I don’t know why that makes me cry. Dr. Hereford is a firm foundation stone in Huntsville, Alabama and capturing this moment shows him embracing the present, cell phones and all.
We are launching a city blog on Easter 2015 in Huntsville, Alabama. The site address is http://www.ourcityonahill.net. Check it out on Facebook, http://www.facebook.com/OurCityOnaHill to get a sneak peek of the content and cast of characters. The cool thing is, it’s not about us. It’s all about Christ!
http://www.ourcityonahill.net will feature a monthly post called, “We built this city on…”
Dr. Sonnie Hereford III will be the first voice featured in this post. We will be sharing our take-a-ways from the interview that made a mark on my “forever” timeline. Mark your calendar for Easter 2015 if you want to hear
