Trust Falling In Faith

I am currently co-authoring a book with one of my favorite friends, Kaitlin Chappell Rogers. We are from two different generations and we have hosted several podcast episodes of our conversations about everything under the sun. This book originated out of the overflow of these vulnerable discussions. In listening back to these heart-to-hearts, we realize the timeless and priceless value of all God has done and continues to do in our lives and putting that in writing is just another way of magnifying Him, our stories for His glory.

As followers of Christ, there is a tension when putting ourselves out there.  We wrestle with always wanting to be a trusted steward of what God has called us to and with never wanting to appear as if self promoting.  The enemy of our soul capitalizes on the risk we take when choosing to move forward in sharing Kingdom and he will do anything he has to in order to shut it down.  I am learning to live in King Jehoshaphat’s posture, “I don’t know what to do but my eyes are on You God.” (2 Chron. 20:12) When I do that, my next step rises to the top.  Saying YES to the risky but worthy business of sharing Christ is the only path I want to take. Am I scared at times? Absolutely! But in trusting God more than I doubt myself, I do it anyway.

As Kaitlin and I get closer to finishing up this book proposal, our literary agent continues to help us grow in the writing process and she encourages us,

You’re here to be light, bringing out the God-colors in the world. God is not a secret to be kept. We’re going public with this, as public as a city on a hill. If I make you light-bearers, you don’t think I’m going to hide you under a bucket, do you? I’m putting you on a light stand. Now that I’ve put you there on a hilltop, on a light stand—shine! Keep open house; be generous with your lives. By opening up to others, you’ll prompt people to open up with God, this generous Father in heaven.

Matthew 5:14-16 (MSG)

She is a Kingdom cheerleader reminding us that what God has done and continues to do in our lives is to be shared. God did it for us and He wants to do it for the world. That is the power of the Blood of Lamb and the word of our testimony. When put that way, we recognize what a great responsibility and privilege we have to pour out our lives, pointing to the Author of Life, Christ, and not the author of any book.

When God gave me my life verse,

“I am the Lord your God,
who brought you up out of Egypt.
Open wide your mouth and I will fill it.”

Psalm 81:10 NIV

I hear Him reminding me, “I rescued you. Now tell the world.” He assures me that if He calls me to share, He will most certainly enable me to, all for His glory, never mine.  I believe Him and want my life to reflect that. Therefore, I will write, speak, paint and live, taking every opportunity He gives me to shine the spotlight on Christ.

Below is the information I have put on my “Speaking” page but I wanted to share here as well for those who may never see the page menu. I do this to encourage you to say YES to whatever God is asking you to do. You are more than able because the Holy Spirit lives in and on you. HE will empower you to take the risk. It will feel scary and the enemy of your soul will pull out all the stops to shut you up or to shut you down. If you are afraid, you are not alone, but do it anyway. Remember fear is never from God; therefore, we get to see fear as our invitation to “trust fall in faith” into all God asks of us. Will you take that “trust fall” with me?

Right now, my “trust fall in faith” looks like co-authoring a book that calls for me to revisit incredibly vulnerable moments of my life, while remembering and rehearsing God’s faithfulness on the journey. It also looks like offering myself up to speak on these things, magnifying the resurrection power of the cross that redeems the brokenness in my story.

I would love to know what “trust falling in faith” looks like for you right now. I hope you will share that with me in your comments or emails.

I can make you this promise, but more importantly God makes us this promise:

Saying YES to “trust falling in faith” is one YES we will never regret!
