31 Days of Hindsight: Day 16

fullsizerender-16

Hello Day 16!!!!!

This look back is proving to be a “bucket full” of amazing memories, memories of people, places, circumstances, songs, poems, books, and  memories of God’s faithfulness above all else!

If you are taking your own look back alongside me, I would love for you to share some of the gold you have gleaned from your 2016 year-end review in the comments!

31 Days of Hindsight: Day 16

I co-lead a small group of teenage girls that we started with in 7th grade, who are now 9th graders.  I found a “Summer Bucket List” nestled boldly on the pages of my journal and I can’t think of a better golden nugget to leave on the blog today!

May this “Summer Bucket List” prompt us to start 2017 with one as well!

Summer Small Group Bucket List

  1. Write one letter to encourage someone
  2. RAK-random acts of kindness
  3. 1 service project
  4. Share the gospel with 1 person
  5. Pay-it-forward a meal
  6. Tell someone you love them that you normally don’t
  7. “gossip good”-brag on others
  8. Start a new Devotional
  9. let someone go in front of you
  10. make someone smile
  11. Be a NOTICER (**“The Noticer” by Andy Andrews is one of my favorite books! A great gift to give this Christmas season.)

That list was a collaborative effort of about 14, 14-year-old girls, and 2, 40 somethings! I would say we set the bar high last summer, and as I look back over it, I am encouraged to keep that list as a daily compass.

Over the holidays, if we are ever bored, sad, mad, tired, or joyful, may we grab a number from above and fill some time filling up the cup of others.

The bored will become creatively engaged;

the sad and mad will slowly be filled with joy;

the tired will be altruistically energized

and

the “joy junkies” will gleak goodness as they go!

31 Days of Hindsight: Day 16

When we look in our 2016 rear-view mirror, do we recall doing anything from that BUCKET LIST above?

If so, I would love to hear your story.  *Please share in the comments.

And if not choose one and start today!

Have you ever written a BUCKET LIST of ways to make the world a better place?

*** This is an appropriate place to add a link to one of my favorite moments of each year.

It is a television moment that celebrates THE GOOD IN THIS WORLD and one that will move your heart, hands and feet – CNN Heroes !

Take some time to check out CNN Heroes. Share it with your family and everyone you know.

Let’s be active participants in helping GOODNESS GO VIRAL!

If so, I would love to know what was on your BUCKET LIST. *Please share BUCKET LIST ideas in the comments.

While on the topic of BUCKET LIST, I would also like to share a quote by Ann Voskamp  (Her new book, The Broken Way, would be a great Christmas gift for anyone! Click on Ann Voskamp’s name in blue to hear more about The Broken Way and order your copy today!)

The best lives don’t have Bucket Lists as much as they have Empty Bucket lists.

Because the thing is when I kick the bucket, I don’t want there to be anything left in my bucket. When I kick the bucket, I want the bucket right empty. ~Ann Voskamp

I am looking forward to hearing from y’all and gleaning gold to put into action this HOLIDAY SEASON!

See you tomorrow on Day 17!

Peace Out

  1. Love your bucket list and love the generational sharing and your work with these dear teenagers. I love teenagers, we learn so much by listening to their hearts! One of my bucket lists this past year was sharing scripture with a friend whose heart had gone cold against Christianity due to a mother who sadly raised her with so much literalism that it squashed her desire to hear the Word. Well we meet now each week and she’s returned to her love of Christ and scripture beyond religion which is a joy to share..I too gained so much since I never fit in in a church and with her I can be myself while sharing the love of Christ. Blessings!!

  2. Love your bucket list! The one bucket list I’ve written was mostly about travel, but my yearly goals include a section about trying to make the world a better place. You’ve inspired me to widen that section though, what a great group of goals!
