Singing or sighing?

Psalm 104:33-“I will sing to The Lord all my life; I will sing praise to my God while I live!”

I love music.  Lyrics can be powerful and moving.  You couple profound lyrics with a memorable melody and they are almost always engraved on my heart forever.  Memorizing Scripture set to music is my way of  “Making Melodies in my heart”-writing HIS WORD on hearts of flesh not tablets of stone.  The Book of Psalms consists mostly of poetry that was to be set to music.  It is a journal of soul emotions dancing with the God of the universe.  The heart cries are honest-expressing joy, grief, anger, depression, confusion, desperation, peace etc…  however, God’s glory and goodness are “true north”  on the compass of this emotional roller coaster.

I listened to my daughter as she played guitar and sang “Temporary Home” by Carrie Underwood.

The lyrics say:

“This is our temporary home, it’s not where I belong. Windows and rooms that I’m passing through.

This is just a stop on the way to where I’m going.  I am not afraid because I know. This is my temporary home!”

I stopped in that moment-Does she understand the gravity and beauty of what she just sang?  I desperately want all my children to get this TRUTH now!  How differently we will live when we set our sight on Heaven while singing our life for Jesus in the present!  This song echoes our COMPASS-God’s Word:

(Hebrews 11:15) I freely admit that I am a stranger and an exile here on earth. What I mean by that, is that I have  my eyes set on a TRUE HOMELAND!  Because of my faith, God is not ashamed to be called my God and in sober truth HE has prepared a city for me!”

(Eph 5:15) So let us live with a due sense of responsibility, not as those who do not know the meaning and purpose of life but as those who do!

Those who do not know the meaning and purpose of life will live a life of “SIGHING”-they are living with out hope and direction!  Since we, as followers of Christ know the hope HE alone offers, it is our responsibility and blessing to share him- SING HIM- to a “SIGHING” world!

Lord, help me “SING YOU” to a “SIGHING WORLD”!
