Stained Glass (A Poem)

Stained glass

Stained can mean a mess to be covered or removed.

Some see ruin beyond repair and others just stare.

What if

The stain is no mistake; it’s on purpose for us to take.

The blood that trickled down His hands and brow onto the ground

Is the very thing that marks the way from lost to found.

The fragile substance that makes a window we see through,

Is similar to the substance that makes up me and you.

It’s breakable and beautiful, sometimes cloudy and sometimes clear.

But even when it’s tinted, there’s nothing to fear.

It can be beveled,bulletproof and crown;

It can be shattered and stained, picked up and laid down.

When these jagged pieces come together in the new,

We see another story being told that tells of You.

Jesus stained that glass and He’s the Gold that is the glue.

Making this reflective coloring Book, letting the light shine on the pews.

We are the Church, the Body and the Bride;

The humility of Jesus leads to laid down pride.

Christ redefined stained and took the break for our glass.

When He said it is finished, he built us to last!

  7. This is a beautiful piece that reflects on the significance of stained glass and how it can be seen as a metaphor for the human experience. I find the comparison between the fragility of stained glass and the fragility of human life quite poignant. My question is, how did the author come up with this analogy between stained glass and the Christian faith? Was there a personal experience or insight that inspired this piece?

      Thank you so much for your kind and encouraging words. Lots of personal, colorful experiences inspired this and thinking of how God doesn’t waste a thing, bringing beautiful things from broken pieces. Recently I was able to go to the Asbury revival and sitting in that chapel watching the next generation hungry and thirsty for God and seeing the light shine through the stained glass all around really sparked a fire in me and this was the overflow of that spark for now ! Thank you again!
