If Christ Is All That Matters…

Colossians 3 is rich. Take a minute to mull over the Message translation of verses 1-11 here.

Colossians 3 (MSG)

He Is Your Life

1-2 So if you’re serious about living this new resurrection life with Christ, act like it. Pursue the things over which Christ presides. Don’t shuffle along, eyes to the ground, absorbed with the things right in front of you. Look up, and be alert to what is going on around Christ—that’s where the action is. See things from hisperspective.

3-4 Your old life is dead. Your new life, which is your real life—even though invisible to spectators—is with Christ in God. He is your life. When Christ (your real life, remember) shows up again on this earth, you’ll show up, too—the real you, the glorious you. Meanwhile, be content with obscurity, like Christ.

5-8 And that means killing off everything connected with that way of death: sexual promiscuity, impurity, lust, doing whatever you feel like whenever you feel like it, and grabbing whatever attracts your fancy. That’s a life shaped by things and feelings instead of by God. It’s because of this kind of thing that God is about to explode in anger. It wasn’t long ago that you were doing all that stuff and not knowing any better. But you know better now, so make sure it’s all gone for good: bad temper, irritability, meanness, profanity, dirty talk.

9-11 Don’t lie to one another. You’re done with that old life. It’s like a filthy set of ill-fitting clothes you’ve stripped off and put in the fire. Now you’re dressed in a new wardrobe. Every item of your new way of life is custom-made by the Creator, with his label on it. All the old fashions are now obsolete. Words like Jewish and non-Jewish, religious and irreligious, insider and outsider, uncivilized and uncouth, slave and free, mean nothing. From now on everyone is defined by Christ, everyone is included in Christ.

It doesn’t always happen but it does occasionally. A verse or passage will prompt a poem, post or painting, and sometimes all 3.

Today, a poem spilled out in response to Colossians 3:11b NLT:

“…Christ is all that matters and he lives in all of us.” Col. 3:11b NLT

I asked myself these questions:

If I say that Christ is all that matters, and I really mean it, how will I live out this day?

What words come to mind when I think of the Jesus I have come to know?

How did Jesus spend His days on earth based on the Bible window we get into His 33 years?

What would He be like if He were walking here today?

“If Christ Is All That Matters…” ~ by Katie Wilson

Selfless is the 1st of many

words that come to mind.

Joyful and Grateful

are running close behind.

Fully present, not distracted,

engaged in conversation.

Listening with delight

when His kids get revelation.

Never late, but right on time,

with adventure for the day.

Asking us to take a risk,

promising His Presence all the way.

Exuding peace and ever patient,

ready and willing for all who come.

Grieving with the grieving,

while offering the HOPE of where He’s from.

Never lazy but a helping hand,

His strength is ours to borrow.

Giving mercy every morning,

while telling us not to worry about tomorrow.

He’s perfectly content

because He knows the battles WON.

When we are feeling hopeless,

He reminds us – IT IS DONE!

If we go jogging, He comes too.

He’s never taken by surprise.

He never sleeps so that we can.

Resting in the Father’s eyes.

He’s never sick or hungry,

but He feels it when we are.

Great Physicians and Provision

The Namer of every star.

His creativity is endless,

and His colors are beyond compare.

His crayon box is open,

He is teaching us to share.

Competition and comparison

will never be His game.

Will we choose collaboration

with the Name above all names?

He keeps His Word and takes His time;

He’s still waiting on the one.

He continues to leave the 99;

What He starts is as good as done.

He’s generous and kind

faithful and true;

He’s not mad or disappointed;

He’s in love with you.

He sacrificed His life

to put eternity in our hearts.

He extends His hand to all;

Who couldn’t use a fresh start?

He’s not exclusive;

He’s never rude.

No matter what you’re wearing,

He’s proud to be seen with you.

But He’s a gentleman

He’ll never force His way.

Lost, lonely and hurting

may this be your day!

For the lost He offers found;

For the lonely, He’s a friend.

For the hurting, He is comfort

and help that has no end.

He hangs out with the humble

and holds the broken heart.

His love levels pride,

when given permission to start.

When we’re feeling empty,

He know our every longing.

He created us with a need,

a craving for belonging.

This poem could go on and on,

if I tried to capture all HE IS.

So I’ll wrap it up with this:

HE WANTS TO CALL YOU HIS!

Will you let Him?
