Sorority Rush Prayer #5
Lord, we lift up the Greek System as a whole. Each individual house is unique and significant. No house is greater than another, they are “different-but-similar parts arranged and functioning together.”
May the individual houses, and each sister in a sisterhood, recognize their significance as a special addition to a collective whole, seeking to co-labor, not compete, to complement, not compare.
Like the “C” church is made up of different houses with different gifts and each “c” church is made up of different people with different gifts, so the Greek System is made up of different sisterhoods with different gifts and each sisterhood is made up of different sisters with different gifts.
“…A body isn’t just a single part blown up into something huge. It’s all the different-but-similar parts arranged and functioning together…As it is, we see that God has carefully placed each part of the body right where he wanted it.
19-24 But I also want you to think about how this keeps your significance from getting blown up into self-importance. For no matter how significant you are, it is only because of what you are a part of…without comparisons.” (Reference 1 Cor. 12 MSG)
Lord, encourage the rushees as they sift out the gold in each sorority house, seeing the beauty and goodness each uniquely has to offer. May they look back on this season and remember the God-colors they witnessed through the kindness and goodness of girls with wide open arms, big smiles and genuine hearts.
Lord, each sorority has had the gift of “concentrated quality time together” leading up to rush week. While it is most definitely a cherished sequestering of sorts, it can also get exhausting and put even the gentlest of souls a little on edge, especially for the introvert who fills up in solitude.
Please enable them to hear and apply these most timely words of wisdom:
“Get along among yourselves, each of you doing your part. Our counsel is that you warn the freeloaders to get a move on. Gently encourage the stragglers, and reach out for the exhausted, pulling them to their feet. Be patient with each person, attentive to individual needs. And be careful that when you get on each other’s nerves you don’t snap at each other. Look for the best in each other, and always do your best to bring it out. Be cheerful no matter what; pray all the time; thank God no matter what happens. This is the way God wants you who belong to Christ Jesus to live.” 1 Thess. 5:13-18 MSG
