31 Days of Hindsight: Day 5

fullsizerender-13

Welcome to day 5!

Hindsight is still teaching and I am simply sharing the gold I am gleaning from my year-end review.  I hope you have been inspired and challenged to look back and let the past “pep talk” your present and prepare you for 2017!

Check out days 1-4 of this 31 day adventure to see the path leading up to today!

31 Days of Hindsight: Day 5

February of 2016 concluded with me wrestling with the concept:

“All overcomers walk with a limp.”

In Genesis 32 Jacob is on his way to meet his brother Esau, when he has an encounter with the angel of the Lord.  Jacob is NOT overcome (making him an OVERCOMER) in the struggle but his hip is dislocated, causing him to limp.  His name is changed from Jacob,”deceiver”, to Israel,”God-Wrestler”.

In Christ, I KNOW I am an overcomer; yet I still wrestle, leaving me with limps:

  • insecurity, as a parent or spouse or creative etc…
  • unforgiveness or bitterness, that rises up from past offenses
  • shame, when I am reminded of my “wandering” years

Each time I wrestle and fight back in Christ’s strength, not my own, I flip the lies on their head.  The “deceiver” has no hold on me and my name is changed:

  • from insecure to confident in my Creator
  • from unforgiving and bitter to grace laced and joyful
  • from ashamed to pure, in the righteous white robes of Christ!

This story in Genesis about Jacob is riddled with learning lessons. I covered page after page in my journal, picking it apart and letting the Holy Spirit illuminate and speak into my life.

Are you curious as to what else we can glean?

Leaving you with a cliffhanger!!! I will continue this “Gold Dig” into Jacob’s life tomorrow, Day 6.  Stay tuned…

IN CONCLUSION OF DAY 5:

*Lean into the limp, for it will show you what you have OVERCOME!
