Sorority Rush Prayer #7

FullSizeRender 2

Today is the last day in the Sorority Rush Prayer series.

My hope is that universities, parents of anyone going through rush or knowing anyone going through rush, and all sisters-in-Christ would link arms and circle the Greek houses and the rushees choosing to go through in prayer.

Rush week has the beautiful potential to be a blessing, but it also has the brutal possibility of being a crushing blow.

THIS I KNOW TO BE TRUE:

If we start each day filling up on Love, spending time with Jesus, recognizing our nothingness apart from Him, and then moving out, to put our love into action, we will please God,

and that is all that really matters.

Isn’t it?

(**The pink words below are from THE LOVE CHAPTER, 1 Cor. 13:4-7 in the Message translation.)

Love never gives up.

Lord, may Your girls ALWAYS love ALL well, being devoted to YOU first and then to one another.

What we are devoted to will direct our lives!

Love cares more for others than for self.

May Your girls be known for their selflessness, not selfishness, putting the needs and hearts of others above their own.

Love doesn’t want what it doesn’t have.

Lord, Protect Your daughters from the green-eyed monster of jealousy and envy.  Open their eyes to the enemies schemes, when he pits your girls against one another, and help them to overcome hateful gossip rooted in envy, with kind words of affirmation rooted in love.

Love doesn’t strut,

May Your girls be known as door-holders, trash picker-uppers, spotters of the lonely, lifters of the downcast, and steady shoulders to stand on.

Doesn’t have a swelled head,

May Your girls give genuine compliments, never flattery, and share their weaknesses, instead of flaunting their strengths.

Doesn’t force itself on others,

As “Pref-Night” comes and goes, may Your girls be known for their sincere love, generosity, gentleness, goodness, warm smiles, big hugs and self-control.

Isn’t always “me first,”

May Your daughters grow more and more in their attitude of “I AM SECOND.”

May “we” always trump “I.”

Doesn’t fly off the handle,

When and if things don’t go as planned or desired, enable Your girls to stay peaceful, joyful and grateful. It is almost impossible to stay angry or frustrated, when gratitude is your focus.

Rarely do the thankful fly off the handle.

Doesn’t keep score of the sins of others,

May Your girls always see potential, not the “present pits” of others. Instead of snap judgements and taking “snap shots “of their sisters caught in sin, may they cover them with love and TOGETHER ask God,

“Investigate my life, O God,
find out everything about me;
Cross-examine and test me,
get a clear picture of what I’m about;
See for yourself whether I’ve done anything wrong—
then guide me on the road to eternal life.”

Psalm 139:23-24 MSG

Doesn’t revel when others grovel,

May Your daughters be quick to forgive, never holding a grudge.  When a sister says, “I am sorry,” may no record of wrong ever be thrown back in their face.

Takes pleasure in the flowering of truth,

May Your girls be seed planters of Truth, celebrators of growth, and co-laborers in Your harvest!

Puts up with anything,

May Your daughters make “turning the other cheek” a way of life.

Trusts God always,

May Your girls trust You always and throw “leaning on their own understanding” out the window!

Always looks for the best,

When the glass looks empty, may Your girls see the pending overflow. When the way seems lost, may they remember You are their Guide, and when the mountain seems impossible, may they climb together, singing in perfect harmony-

ALL THINGS ARE POSSIBLE WITH GOD!

Never looks back,

May Your daughters believe and share with others that “their past does not dictate their future.”  May the Greek houses see more than just packets of information with grades and accolades.  May they throw rumors to the wind, encourage new beginnings, and form opinions, through the filter of Love, on the person right in front of them, not on the reputation that may have preceded them.

May “Bigs” and “littles” hold one another accountable, inviting each other into the hard places, holding arms up and lifting chins, locking eyes to remind one another,

“I love you.

God loves you.

You are smart,

wonderful,

and beautiful.

Don’t ever forget it!

Got it?

Good!

But keeps going to the end.

(1 Cor. 13:4-7 MSG)

Rush is over. Decisions have been decided. Friends have been made and letters are being handed out.

Sift out the gold from this past week and throw away the dross.

H-I-S are the 3 letters that define you.

If you have added a few greek letters to your alphabet, wear them in such a way that others seek the God you know and reflect, not the house you graciously represent.

“Through thick and thin, keep your hearts at attention, in adoration before Christ, your Master. Be ready to speak up and tell anyone who asks why you’re living the way you are, and always with the utmost courtesy.”

1 Peter 3:15 MSG

If you have not added greek letters to your alphabet, confidently walk away from this season, in such a way that others seek the God you know and reflect, knowing the letters

H-I-S

are theirs

or can be theirs

too.

All they have to do is ask!

“And so I tell you, keep on asking, and you will receive what you ask for. Keep on seeking, and you will find. Keep on knocking, and the door will be opened to you. 10 For everyone who asks, receives. Everyone who seeks, finds. And to everyone who knocks, the door will be opened.”

Luke 11: 9-10 NLT

Amen
