WHO DO YOU WALK WITH?
“Noah, however, found favor in the sight of the Lord. These are the family records of Noah. Noah was a righteous man, blameless among his contemporaries; NOAH WALKED WITH GOD.” (Genesis 6:8-9)
When watching a high school football game, even if I can not see the number on his jersey, I can tell which player is my son, simply by the way he walks or runs on the field. I can tell from a distance, with backs to me and all the girls in the same school uniform, simply by looking at her walk, which one is my daughter in a group. “How we walk” and “who we walk with” speaks volumes about who and WHOSE we are; however, I believe the “who” determines the “how”.
We can learn a lot from Noah. When Noah enters the scene, the scene is described as wicked, evil, and corrupt! The Word says that God regretted making man and that HE was grieved in HIS heart. But God still chooses to extend grace and preserve life in the midst of judgement. These verses in Genesis tell us that God is pleased with Noah, that Noah has a family, that Noah has friends or “contemporaries”, that Noah is righteous and stands out blameless in his generation and that Noah “walked with God”. Although “WHO Noah walked with” is stated last, this fact is foundational! It is BECAUSE he walked with GOD that he found favor with God in the first place. It is BECAUSE he walked with GOD that his family and contemporaries are even mentioned and it is BECAUSE he walked with GOD that Noah is considered righteous and blameless! What comes first the chicken or the egg? In this case it is obvious! We must choose to walk with GOD by faith FIRST then the favor, righteousness and blamelessness will be attributed to us!
Proverbs 13:20-“Whoever walks with the wise becomes wise, but the companion of fools will suffer.” Noah chose wisely! This verse in Proverbs seems to primarily give wise instruction on choosing our friends; however it also speaks to our primary WALKING PARTNER-the Wise Counselor Himself! We are in this world but not of this world as followers of Christ. We have one life on this earth and we get to choose “WHO” we walk with. I want it to be obvious that I walk with GOD! I want my walk to say,”Come and see”. I want my walk to lead my “contemporaries ” to the ark! When Christ came HE offered entrance to the ARK-to the KINGDOM- to anyone that chose to get on through the ONE ENTRANCE-THE CROSS!
Thank you God for the New Covenant through Christ! Thank you for being just and thank you for grace! May my walk lead straight to the Cross as I hold YOUR compassionate and mighty hand every step of the way! May my “#tag” into glory be “#Katie walked with God”.
